Manchester United could be forced to splash out £80million if they are to win the battle for their latest transfer target.
The Reds are pressing ahead with plans already in motion to bolster their squad under Michael Carrick this summer. A deal to bring in Atalanta midfielder Ederson has reportedly been struck, with United anticipated to make a further addition in the centre of the pitch.
Casemiro’s exit has left a considerable void in midfield, with Carrick eager to address their shortcomings ahead of the club’s return to Champions League football next campaign. A second new face at Old Trafford is currently being pursued, while Harry Maguire’s latest career move has been confirmed.

Harry Maguire’s new role confirmed
Missing out on England’s World Cup squad won’t stop Harry Maguire making the most of his summer, as the Manchester United defender is set to feature on The Rest is Football podcast during the tournament, according to The Athletic.
The 33-year-old was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man selection, representing the second successive major international tournament he has failed to appear at, having been ruled out of Euro 2024 through injury.
Maguire is set to be among a host of guests appearing on the hugely popular podcast fronted by Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards. The former England stars will be broadcasting from a studio overlooking New York’s Times Square across 40 episodes.
United ‘contact’ with next target
United could build on their £38.8million capture of Atalanta midfielder Ederson by moving for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, United have reached an agreement on the overall package for the Brazilian, who may soon be welcoming the Hammers star as a new team-mate.
An ESPN report claims United have already been in touch with West Ham regarding a potential deal for Fernandes. West Ham could be forced into a series of player sales, with relegation expected to leave a £100m hole in their finances. According to The Times, they have slapped an £80m price tag on Fernandes.
Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in the Portugal international, who made a strong impression during his debut campaign at the London Stadium.
