1 pen missed, 0% aerial duels won, 5 passes: United youngster makes loan debut from hell for new side

Manchester United’s loanee Joe Hugill made a nightmare start for Barnet in the Carabao cup against Newport County.

Disappointing loan spells

The United forward joined Barnet earlier in the summer on loan for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old’s career has stalled lately owing to poor loan spells at Wigan Athletic and Carlisle United, where he failed to stand out.

Missed penalty

Sadly, Hugill’s debut for his new side could not have gone any worse.

The match went to penalties after a 2-2 draw, where Barnet incredibly scored two goals in the 97th and 99th minute to equalise.

The youngster stepped up to take his side’s third penalty in the shootout but his effort struck the left post.

Anybody can miss a penalty but once again, more worryingly, he failed to make much impact on the match.

Lack of involvement

In the entire 90 minutes he was on the pitch, he failed to have any shots on or off target.

He did have three efforts on goal but they were all blocked by the away side’s defence.

Hugill only managed 13 touches of the ball and could only complete five passes, highlighting how isolated he was from his new teammates.

The 21-year-old did complete one key pass in the match, however.

Despite his height, he also struggled in the air, losing both his aerial duels in the match.

Chance to recover

One of the great things about football is there is always a chance to right the wrongs of a bad result shortly around the corner.

The Bees will kick off their new season in League Two at home to Fleetwood Town on Saturday, where Hugill will hope to make a much more positive impression for his new team.
