Hannibal Mejbri is set to leave Manchester United and join Burnley on a permanent basis, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
In the past few days, Hannibal has been strongly linked with a switch to Burnley, with his time at Old Trafford increasingly looking like it has come to an end.
The Red Devils have been open to allowing the Tunisia international international to leave this summer.
Earlier today, Romano claimed that United had reached a verbal agreement with Burnley for the transfer of Hannibal to Turf Moor.
Romano pointed out that the two English clubs struck a deal that would see Hannibal get his move to the Championship side on loan with an obligation to buy.
The Italian journalist has now given an update and seems to have backtracked on the information he provided hours ago. According to Romano, Hannibal will leave United on a permanent deal and there will be no loan arrangement with an obligation to buy.
He wrote on X (formerly Twitter), ” Hannibal Mejbri completes medical today at Burnley and joins on permanent deal instead of loan with obligation to buy.”
“Man United requested change as funds will be received earlier and deal will also include a sell-on clause.”
“Here we go!”
This has also been confirmed by Steven Railston of The Manchester Evening News. As per MEN, “Burnley have agreed a deal to sign Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United on a permanent transfer.”
“The Manchester Evening News reported last week that United’s preference was to sell Hannibal on a permanent deal but that Burnley were exploring a loan with an obligation to buy. Talks between United and Burnley have progressed since then and it’s understood Hannibal underwent his medical to move to Turf Moor on a permanent transfer on Monday.”
Hannibal already has the experience of playing in England’s second flight, having spent a season out on loan with Birmingham City.
Last term, the 21-year-old spent the second half of the campaign on loan with La Liga outfit Sevilla, who opted against triggering an option to sign him permanently for €20million.
United fended off stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona and Bayern Munich to acquire Hannibal from Monaco for £9million in 2019.
