Having agreed a deal with Paris Saint-Germain for Manuel Ugarte, it was important for Manchester United to move on players and raise capital to steer clear of breaching any Profit and Sustainability rules.
And INEOS have done that masterfully, successfully moving on Scott McTominay to Napoli while also inserting a massive sell-on clause in Hannibal Mejbri’s deal with Burnley.
The club are currently trying to move on Jadon Sancho, who had interest from both Juventus and Chelsea but it seems the Serie A club are winning the race.
After a brilliant second-half of the season at Borussia Dortmund, it seemed like the controversial United winger would end up rejoining his former club on a permanent basis.
Dortmund had another chance
But the Champions League finalists were cash-strapped and proposed a cut-price fee, something the new co-owners simply did not agree with and hence, after discussions with Erik ten Hag, the player was reintegrated back into the first team.
But after a difficult last season which saw the pair’s relationship break down beyond repair, Sancho has not featured at all this new Premier League season and an exit seems to be the best course of action for both club and player.
With Juventus eyeing a loan deal with an option to buy, United tried to get Dortmund back in the race with the versatile forward offered to the Bundesliga side via intermediaries as per Bild.
But the team from Westfalenstadion have been unable to make space for the Englishman and hence, failed with their last-minute attempt to bring back the fan favourite who was keen to return.
Dortmund failed with a last-minute attempt
“BILD learned that Sancho was actually offered to BVB again through an intermediary. It was supposedly done because a place in the Dortmund offensive was suddenly available again due to the loan of Youssoufa Moukoko (18) to OGC Nice.
“However, the condition is that BVB pays Sancho’s salary, which is up to 20 million euros per season – unthinkable! Above all, Sancho himself now has other plans.”
Whether he can recapture his form in Turin remains to be seen. The Serie A’s pace will suit the England international but he needs to improve his attitude for sure.
United are well-stocked out wide and it will not be a major loss for Ten Hag. But the club will likely incur a major loss on their initial expenditure.
