Man United recently offered Simone Inzaghi the managerial job with “immediate effect” but he declined – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United reportedly offered Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi the Old Trafford managerial job in recent days but he declined it.

Current United manager Erik ten Hag is under growing pressure amid a tough start to the 2024/25 season.

United are in the bottom half of the Premier League table after six games and it certainly doesn’t get any easier for the club, with a trip to high-flying Aston Villa the next item on the agenda ahead of the October international break.

The Red Devils suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham last weekend, followed by a dramatic 3-3 draw away to Porto in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Earlier on Friday, Sir Jim Ratcliffe was asked about Ten Hag’s uncertain future at the club and he refused to definitively back the Dutchman.

Ratcliffe pointed out that the final decision on whether or not to sack Ten Hag will be made by the new leadership group consisting of individuals like Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox.

Amidst all this, it has been claimed that United are exploring potential replacements, with a number of options mooted including Thomas Tuchel, Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, Gareth Southgate and Simone Inzaghi.

Inzaghi has previously been mentioned as a “serious contender” to succeed Ten Hag at United.

Journalist Tancredi Palmer has now revealed that United reached out to Inzaghi and offered him the chance to become the club’s manager during the upcoming international break.

It’s understood that Inzaghi declined the proposal.

Palmer wrote on X, “Manchester United in past days offered to Simone Inzaghi to take over managerial job with immediate effect during international break but Inzaghi declined.”

A few hours before divulging this information, Palmer reported, “Intense talks ongoing at Manchester United to decide whether to sack Ten Hag during international break.”

“No firm decision yet on possible substitute, several names have been discussed.”

Inzaghi’s Inter are currently fourth in Serie A, just five points adrift of Napoli. Inter have a game in hand.

The Nerazzurri have so far won three, drawn two and only lost one of their first six league matches. Under Inzaghi, Inter won the Scudetto in 2023/24 by a staggering 19-point margin over nearest challengers AC Milan.

Before their Serie A title triumph, the club finished as runners-up to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the 2022/23 Champions League final.
