Ajax unsure about re-signing Antony due to concerns over his mindset amidst his Man United woes – Man United News And Transfer News

Ajax are reportedly unsure about the idea of re-signing Antony from Manchester United due to concerns over his mindset after a difficult few years.

United forked out an enormous £86million fee to secure the Brazilian’s services from Ajax in the summer of 2022.

He arrived at Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag’s marquee signing. The pair successfully worked together at the Johan Cruyff Arena, where the winger plundered an impressive 24 goals and 22 assists in the two seasons he spent there.

However, it has been a different story at United so far. Antony has struggled to have an impact on England and at the moment, is firmly at the bottom of the pecking order below the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo.

In the 86 appearances Antony has made for United, he has scored just 12 goals, highlighting just how much he has been unimpactful.

He has yet to start a game in the Premier League or the Europa League, which has fuelled further speculation over his long-term future with the 20-time English champions.

Antony has featured on four occasions across all competitions but has started just once, in the 7-0 thrashing of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

The forward has played just 27 minutes in the Premier League.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Red Devils are prepared to let Antony leave for a sum of £40m.

It’s understood that Ten Hag’s side are even willing to sanction a January exit for the 24-year-old.

According to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf [via The Daily Mail], Ajax are an interested party in Antony but they “have doubts” about bringing him back to the Eredivisie.

This is because the club are “unsure about his mindset” following his woes at United.

The Reds return to action on Thursday when they come up against Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce. With the club in desperate need of three points, having drawn two of their opening Europa League clashes, it’s highly unlikely that Antony will be named in Ten Hag’s starting XI.
