Who are the bookies’ favourites to replace Erik ten Hag as Man United manager? – Man United News And Transfer News

Erik ten Hag has been sacked this morning from his job as manager of Manchester United.

Assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has been put in charge of the team on an interim basis until a permanent replacement can be found.

Several names have already been mentioned by the media in regard to who that permanent replacement will be, with Van Nistelrooy himself one of the bookies’ two favourites.

The Dutchman is around evens with most betting sites, given that he has the advantage of being able to do a live audition for the job.

Next up is former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez. His odds have shot in from around 10/1 to around the same as Van Nistelrooy and he is a name that has gained a lot of traction in the past few days.

Third favourite overall is former England manager Gareth Southgate. His odds sit at around 5/1 with the big sites. TNT sports are pushing him as a favourite and he is well-known to be a friend of Ineos board members. However, recently tier 1 journalist David Ornstein said that Southgate had not been seriously considered for the job.

Also among the favourites with most is Sporting’s Ruben Amorim. His odds have recently moved out from around 3/1 to around 8/1 with most of the major sites. Although he is riding the crest of a wave at the table-topping Lisbon side, who have won every single league match so far and are also unbeaten in three Champions League games.

This leaves a question mark over whether he would jump ship in the middle of the season, but he does have form in that regard, having left Braga for Sporting in March 2020.

One big doubt over Amorim is that he has been rumoured to be lined up to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, which, if true, he may see as a more appealing position.

He is neck-and-neck with Brentford’s Thomas Frank, whose odds are just slightly longer, and have also gone out a lot as Xavi’s name became more prominent.

Michael Carrick, Kieran McKenna and Graham Potter are the next bunch, all with odds from around tens to sixteens.

Massimo Allegri and Edin Terzic are next at around 20/1 and 33/1, respectively.

Some reports today were claiming that United were going to make an approach for Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann, and the bookies have reacted. Odds ranging from 33/1 to 60/1 have suddenly been slashed and he is now emerging as one of the favourites at around 5/1.

Another name that has been mentioned a lot lately is that of Sebastain Hoeness, who is still an outsider at around 50/1. Unai Emery has also been regularly mentioned but is way out at around 40/1.

Odds all from oddschecker.com are correct at time of writing, but please note they are changing rapidly.
