Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes reaches impressive landmark after brace against Leicester City – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes recorded his 150th and 151st goal involvment for the club on Wednesday night against Leicester City.

The Portuguese star has been an outstanding signing for the Red Devils since making his debut in February 2020 against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Fernandes fit seamlessly into the United first eleven under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and quickly became the catalyst for the side in an attacking sense.

His fine displays were rewarded when he filled in as captain for most of the 2022-2023 season and was officially announced the permanent skipper in the summer of 2023.

He has struggled to find his true form in this campaign, but scored his first goals in the 5-2 thumping of Leicester City on Wednesday night.

His deflected free-kick and fine finish after rounding the keeper helped him reach the landmark goal involvement figure for the club since making the move from Sporting Lisbon.

According to OptaJoe statistics, he became only the seventh player to reach this milestone in Europe’s top five leagues since making his debut in 2020 and the first midfielder to do so – an incredible achievement.

His 81 strikes mean that he is now 22nd on the all-time goalscoring list of the club, having scored the same number of goals as the legendary Eric Cantona.

Were he to reach the three figure mark, he would become only the 18th person to have done so in the club’s storied history.

This season’s tally is now up to two goals and five assits and tells its own story that despite his poor form, he has still made seven contributions.

United fans will hope the end of the goal drought will lead to an avalanche of goals and assists for the Portuguese magician, starting against Chelsea this afternoon.

In addition, the arrival of compatriot Ruben Amorim as manager could and should reinvigorate Fernandes’ performances for the Red Devils and fans will hope he can lead the club to more trophies over the next few seasons.
