Legendary Man United captain Bryan Robson sings praises of new head coach Ruben Amorim – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has backed the club’s decision to sack Erik ten Hag and bring in Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim as the new head coach.

The Red Devils finally parted ways with Erik ten Hag last week after suffering a wasteful defeat to struggling West Ham United and Ruud van Nistelrooy was placed in interim charge.

A deal for Amorim to replace the Dutchman was rapidly concluded last week and it was announced that he would take over the reins on Monday the 11th of November after Sporting’s game against Braga on Sunday night.

The Portuguese has brought great excitement to the United fanbase, especially after his current side crushed Manchester City 4-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

One man who believes the club has made the right call is former captain and icon Bryan Robson.

Speaking to Sky Sports he claimed that “I think it was sort of a decison that needed to be made by the owners”.

The 67 year old praised the work of former manager Erik ten Hag saying “we won the Carabao cup, we won the FA Cup and Erik’s done great, I thought that he had done really well but the performances at the end of last season, the FA Cup got us away from that, because it was a great performance against City in the final.”

Robson went on to comment that most fans probably felt the performances would see an increase in quality this year but that has not been the case at all as the club sits in 13th place in the Premier League table.

“You are thinking, there is going to be an improvement but unfortunately the Liverpol defeat, the Tottenham defeat, they were bad defeats at home. He had a few injury problems but when you are at Man United, you need to be that little bit better. So the club made the decision to relase him.”

The former midfielder then threw his weight behind the decision to appoint Amorim claiming, he’s “done well in Portugal, he has got a great reputation. The one thing I would say about our owners, the three lads they have put in charge of the football, Omar (Berrada), Dan (Ashworth) and Jason (Wilcox), this is what they are renowned for. The clubs that they have worked for, they’ve always employed really good managers who have really good reputations and so they’ve made the decision that this is the man for us.”

“I’ve heard he’s a really good coach, so hopefully he will get the best out of the squad because I think we have some good young players coming through.”

Robson did comment that there has been so much upheaval at the club in recent years and this has clearly had a “detrimental” effect on the players as they have had to absorb a multitude of different ideas from a range of different coaches and nationalities.

When asked if Amorim needed time and patience he responded that “hopefully this is the right one” and you just hope that the players respond to him and this leads the club to once again achieving better performances and results to what fans have become accustomed to lately.
