Manchester United duo Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo have been nominated for the Globe Soccer Emerging Player 2024 award.
The Globe Soccer Awards brings together football personalities, both past and present, to honour the biggest and most outstanding achievements of 2024.
Globe Soccer Awards’ website states, “The winners will be chosen through a unique dual selection process. Football enthusiasts worldwide will have their say in determining the recipients of these coveted awards through a global fan vote.”
“Additionally, an esteemed panel of international football icons will lend their expertise to the selection process. This year’s jury includes legendary figures such as Francesco Totti, Iker Casillas, Luis Figo, and Marcello Lippi.”
Throughout a season of mixed fortunes, marked by the triumph of an FA Cup victory and the disappointment of an eighth-place finish in the Premier League for the 2023/24 season, Garnacho and Mainoo have remained consistent bright spots for both fans and the club.
Both players truly broke into the team last term, making an impressive 82 appearances across all competitions between them.
The two Carrington academy graduates also grabbed a goal apiece to secure United’s victory in the FA Cup final over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
So far this campaign, Garnacho seems to have picked up where he left off and leads the way as United’s top scorer this season with seven goals in 18 appearances.
Mainoo’s has only featured on eight occasions, due to an injury that has kept him sidelined for weeks.
Garnacho and Mainoo were in the running to win the Kopa Trophy but eventually lost out to Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal. However, the United pair are now in contention to claim the Globe Soccer Emerging Player 2024 award.
For either to win, they will need to ward off significant competition from the likes of Pau Cubarsí (Barcelona), Désiré Doué (Paris Saint-Germain, Arda Güler (Real Madrid), João Neves (Paris Saint-Germain), Aleksandar Pavlović (Bayern Munich), Savinho (Manchester City), Yamal (Barcelona), and Kenan Yildiz (Juventus).

The players with the highest number of votes will advance to a shortlist of finalists.
