Ruben Amorim to have a say in Christian Eriksen’s future at Manchester United – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are expected to let Christian Eriksen leave at the end of the season, claims Fabrizio Romano.

One of the biggest headaches new United manager Ruben Amorim inherits from his predecessor Erik ten Hag centres around midfield.

Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation, which worked wonders at Sporting CP, sees one of the two midfielders push higher up the field and into the final third. Meanwhile, the other midfielder is often tasked with helping the side during build-up and has ball-winning responsibility in transitions.

As such, both starting midfielders in Amorim’s lineup should ideally be technically proficient and physically dominant. Apart from Kobbie Mainoo, who is still relatively inexperienced, there isn’t any player in the first-team that fits the profile.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report suggesting Amorim intends to sign “players with intensity”. This leaves question marks over long-term futures of ageing stars Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

It seems Eriksen, in particular, has no place in Amorim’s project, despite his impressive start to the 2024/25 campaign.

The 32-year-old Dane, who has been directly involved in seven goals across all competitions this term, is nearing the final months of his deal at Old Trafford, having joined the Red Devils as a free agent during Ten Hag’s first summer in Manchester.

The ex-Brentford star will be free to negotiate with clubs outside England starting in January. Still, United are yet to open talks with him over a new contract.

Shining light on the development, Fabrizio Romano posted: “Manchester United and Christian Eriksen are still expected to part ways at the end of the season.”

He continued: “No negotiations taking place over new deal, while Rúben Amorim’s opinion will also be considered — but Eriksen’s expected to leave.”

Since Amorim’s opinion will be considered before a final decision is made on Eriksen, it is not far-fetched to assume that things could change quickly if the Denmark international manages to impress his new head coach in training.

Having said that, considering his age and lack of intensity out of possession, it is best for all parties to move forward and look for alternatives.
