Man United set to miss out on goalkeeper Robbie Cook to Leeds United – Man United News And Transfer News

Leeds United look set to beat Manchester United to the signature of Australian keeper Robbie Cook.

The Red Devils have made the strengthening of their academy a priority for numerous years now, and new owners, Ineos, have carried on that work.

The exciting transfers of Chido Obi and Sekou Kone in the summer demonstrate this commitment.

In addition, United are also inches from confirming a move for 17 year old Paraguayan left back Diego Leon.

According to The Sun (via Leeds United News), they may be about to miss out on one teenage talent to their cross-Pennines rivals.

It was reported in the summer that United were keen to snap up the Perth Glory keeper, but it seems they may have been unsuccessful in their attempts.

The Sun claim that “Leeds are closing in on a three-year deal to sign Perth Glory’s 17-year-old goalkeeper Robbie Cook and have seen some serious competition.”

It is reported that he impressed in a trial for the club, and he is set to put pen to paper.

It is quite a coup for Leeds as they have seemingly beaten rivals United and fellow promotion challengers Sunderland AFC to his signature.

“Likely to go straight into the U18 side to break past Rory Mahady in the U21 team, Cook has been on the bench for Perth Glory’s senior side without ever actually making his senior debut.”

United had reportedly asked the player to train with them on trial in the summer after he had also had sessions with Sunderland.

The Red Devils recently bolstered their youth department with the signing of former Arsenal keeper Hubert Graczyk in the summer.
