Tottenham Hotspur face defensive crisis before hosting Man United in the Carabao Cup – Man United News And Transfer News

Tottenham Hotspur face a bit of an injury crisis before they take on Manchester United in the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup.

With Liverpool, Newcastle United and Arsenal already having booked their place in the last four, United or Spurs will be looking to do the same.

United have not won at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since a 3-0 win in the dying embers of the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer days in October 2021.

Their case may be helped though as Spurs will field a far from full strength defence in the massive clash.

According to Manchester United’s official website, fullback “Destiny Udogie is hoping to prove his fitness, after the full-back was forced off during the convincing 5-0 win at Southampton in the Premier League.”

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou claimed that the defender doesn’t have an injury but he is “sore” and it will be touch-and-go if he will play this evening.

Midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur will also miss the game due to his suspension for comments he made about teammate Son Heung-min, after losing an appeal to cut short the ban.

The problems don’t stop there however as “Ben Davies, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven are all out, along with keeper Guglielmo Vicario.”

In total, that means five out of the back six that started at Old Trafford in September will be unable to play with only right back Pedro Porro being fit.

Van de Ven in particular will be a big miss as United struggled to live with his pace and strength in both an attacking and defensive sense last time out.

Forwards Mikey Moore, Wilson Odobert and Richarlson are also unavailable for the hosts.

United for their part will not have Luke Shaw or Mason Mount available for the match. Marcus Rashford has also been left out of the travelling squad after the continuing drama over his future. Noussair Mazraoui is also a doubt after picking up a knock at the weekend.

The match will kick off tonight at 8pm UK time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London.
