Lee Sharpe instructs Ruben Amorim to prioritise signing a goal scorer for Man United – Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe has instructed Ruben Amorim to spend most of his money on a goal scorer in the next window.

The Portuguese’s honeymoon period is well and truly over as the club were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Tottenham Hotspur and have lost three out of their last four Premier League matches.

To be fair, Amorim has always suggested he is aware of the scale of the task needed to put United back on the right track and most accept that the squad, once again, requires an overhaul.

United will have restricted funds as they enter the transfer market due to PSR problems and other financial issues plaguing the club at the moment.

Nonetheless, former attacker Sharpe has pinpointed the area Amorim must prioritise above all.

Speaking to The Irish Independent he claimed, “I think a goal scorer should be the priority for Amorim, but they are not easy to find in the January transfer window and they don’t come cheap when it’s Manchester United that comes calling.”

Sharpe backed current striker Rasmus Hojlund but claimed that he will need time to blossom into the player that the fans expect to lead the line at Old Trafford.

“Hojlund is going to be a top player, but he is still young and learning his trade. He has also picked up a few injuries and that can happen to young players at the start of their careers. He is a physical player who gets battered around a lot.”

The 53 year old claimed that whilst it won’t be easy to sign someone, the likely departure of Marcus Rashford will speed things along.

“Signing a striker is not easy, but with Rashford going, maybe the wage bill will be a bit lighter and they can look to go after someone else.”

United have been recently linked to numerous goal scorers such as Victor Osimhen and Randal Kolo Muani.

With United languishing in 13th place in the league and a pitiful 21 goals in 17 matches, it may be shrewd to follow Sharpe’s advice.
