Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana responded to centre-back teammate Matthijs de Ligt after another difficult 90 minutes against Ipswich Town.
Onana was almost immediately under pressure in the game when he made the ill-judged decision to rush off his line to greet a Patrick Dorgu back pass. Unbeknownst to the Dane, the ‘keeper was left in no man’s land as the pass left him wrong-footed and Jaden Philogene with one of the easiest tap-ins.
Thankfully for Onana, the second half passed without incident as Ipswich failed to break down the United defence. However, it did little to convince supporters that the Cameroonian is deserving of the No.1 position at Old Trafford.
In the aftermath of the match, De Ligt took to social media to suggest that it was not the performance that mattered but rather the result. “Three points, that’s what matters,” he shared as he posted a picture of his celebration against Ipswich.
Replying to his post, Onana shared two arm flexing emojis which often signify strength or agreement. While results are the most important thing right now, Ruben Amorim will be keeping a close eye on performances as he determines which areas of the squad need strengthening first in the summer.

Despite his inconsistent performances, Onana is unlikely to be replaced in the summer particularly when there are several other areas that need strengthening first.
