Man United star ‘open’ to summer transfer return ahead of Ruben Amorim FFP boost

Manchester United transfer news as Victor Lindelof’s imminent exit from the club approaches with a hint at his next move

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has reportedly made a decision on his future ahead of the expiry of his contract at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old’s eight-year stay at Old Trafford is set to end in the summer after over 180 appearances. Lindelof was signed by Jose Mourinho but has lost his place in recent years.

This season, the Swede has only played 11 times with Ruben Amorim opting for Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro throughout. A new contract remains unlikely meaning he’s expected to depart in the summer.

According to reports, Lindelof’s former side Benfica are closely monitoring his situation over a possible move to Estadio da Luz. Portuguese outlet Record have claimed the defender is open to a return to the club after spending five years with the club.

The report states that Lindelof is often returning to the country for visits. Benfica currently use former Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi alongside Antonio Silva but the 37-year-old Argentine is close to joining River Plate on a free transfer.

Lindelof spent five years at the club, winning three Portuguese league titles and two domestic cups. Now, he is currently United’s second longest-serving player behind Luke Shaw.

A move away from United would free-up his wages at the club for the new season. United’s FFP worries mean Amorim may be forced to cash-in on players to raise funds but wages off the books could also work in their favour.

Tom Heaton, Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans are all also in the final few months of their contracts and could depart in June.
