Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has hailed current captain Bruno Fernandes as the Reds qualified for the Europa League quarter-finals.
Things started badly for United as Mikel Oyarzabal both won and then converted a penalty to put the Spanish side ahead. However, the Reds soon equalised when Rasmus Hojlund was fouled in the box and Fernandes dispatched his first goal of the evening.
He stepped up to the penalty spot again shortly after half-time when Patrick Dorgu was fouled. After bagging his second of the evening, Ferdinand was quick to repeat his stance on Fernandes to his followers.
“Bruno is our problem they keep telling me…” he wrote which was identical to the tweet he sent after Fernandes fired home a brilliant free kick in the clash against Arsenal on Sunday. United’s night would get better still when Real Sociedad were reduced to ten men after Jon Aramburu was adjudged to have prevented a goalscoring opportunity when he fouled Dorgu.

As the La Liga side tried to hold out, it was Fernandes who wrapped up the result firing home one-on-one to make it 3-1 on the night. Diogo Dalot added gloss to the scoreline on what was a perfect night for the Reds.
For Fernandes, he will see the performance as further redemption after being heavily criticised in recent weeks. Ex-United captain Roy Keane has been a vocal critic of the midfielder and has insisted that he needs to do more for the team.
United’s victory means they will face Lyon next month over two legs for a spot in the semi-finals.
