It’s shaping up to be a busy summer for Manchester United as they look to overhaul Ruben Amorim’s playing squad.
It’s been another season to forget for United, who have flattered to deceive in the Premier League and have been well off the pace setters all season. The Reds crashed out of the FA Cup and League Cup, but are still fighting on the European front.
Winning the Europa League would be a huge achievement for the Reds this season, with a return to Champions League football part of the prize. It won’t be an easy feat, but if Amorim were able to win silverware this season, it would only strengthen Ineos’ trust in him to deliver in the dugout.
However, it’s no secret, a lot of the focus is on the upcoming summer transfer window and the wheeling and dealing United will have to do in order to transform their squad.
The Reds have been linked with a number of Amorim’s former players at Sporting, with Viktor Gyokeres, Geovany Quenda and others tipped for a move to Old Trafford.
Despite spending big on defensive reinforcements in recent years, it’s Sporting defender Goncalo Inacio who continues to be touted for a reunion with his former boss.
Portuguese media outlet A Bola namechecked United as a possible destination for the Portuguese international – who shares the same agent as Reds captain Bruno Fernandes.
The report claims Fernandes could play a key role in helping lure Inacio to Manchester, with Miguel Pinho representing both players.
It goes on to say that Sporting have set an asking price in the region of €45million for the 23-year-old defender, who impressed under Amorim’s stewardship.
However, United aren’t alone in their admiration for the centre-back, with the report claiming Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund were keen on signing Inacio during the winter transfer window. but they couldn’t agree a deal with Sporting.
