Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has insisted the decision to start Rasmus Hojlund on the bench for tonight’s clash with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground is tactical.

After ending his 21-game goal drought against Leicester City prior to the international break, the Dane is a surprise omission from the starting line-up this evening.

Joshua Zirkzee, who has been recalled to the starting XI, is poised to lead United’s attack, supported by Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes from the two No.10 positions. Fernandes is set to operate further forward with Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro occupying the two deeper midfield roles.

Explaining why Zirkzee is starting up front ahead of Hojlund, Amorim told TNT Sports: “It is just tactical reasons. We tried to look at the opponent, we tried to see the training sessions and see the best qualities in the players to win the game.

“We have to remember that it is really important that players can change the game in the middle of the game. We are thinking of everything and we try to pick the best 11 to win the game.”

On moving Fernandes back into a more advanced position after a recent stint in midfield, Amorim, when asked if he is poised to start further forward, added: “You will see. You can see from the line-up he will play a little bit ahead.

“But Bruno will be everywhere. He is a player that we try to put in the perfect position to help the team to win the game.

“Today we have Casemiro and Manu (Ugarte) in the part of the build-up and Bruno nearer the goal.”
