Man United plotting sensational summer swoop for Matheus Cunha for one of the No 10 roles – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are reportedly keen on a summer deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha in addition to signing Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.

Scoring goals has been a big problem for United this season, with several of their forwards struggling to consistently come up with the goods in front of goal.

United are on course to score 45 Premier League goals this season, a pitiful tally that would be a club-record low. There is an urgent need to secure attacking reinforcements during the upcoming summer transfer window, hence the links to Cunha and Delap.

A report covered by The Peoples Person indicated that Delap is United’s primary striker target. While many expected the club to focus on signing just one forward, Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic has now revealed that United are aiming to bring in both Delap and Cunha, with the latter seen as an ideal option for one of the No. 10 roles.

Whitwell says, “Manchester United are considering a summer move for Matheus Cunha to supplement their aims of getting more goals in Ruben Amorim’s team. Liam Delap is high in thoughts at United to come in as striker, while Cunha is seen as potentially a good fit for one of the No 10 positions.”

“Signing both players is viewed as plausible if United are able to sell well, while other attacking options are being explored for both forward roles and plenty of talks on targets are anticipated.”

“Figures at United are acutely aware of the need to boost the potency of options available to Amorim.”

Cunha has notched an impressive 13 goals and provided an additional four assists in 26 Premier League appearances this term. Delap on the other hand, has notched 12 goals in 30 top-flight games.

It was recently pointed out that if Ipswich get relegated, Delap could be obtained for just £30m. Meanwhile, Cunha has a £62.5m release clause contained in the contract he signed with Wolves in January.

The Athletic note that while Wolves would ideally want this amount paid in full, there is likely to be some flexibility around instalments.

The newspaper further adds that decision-makers at Old Trafford see Cunha as a player already in his prime, capable of making an immediate impact upon arrival.

The Brazilian currently earns approximately £150,000 per week at Molineux and would likely demand a pay rise if he were to join United. However, the anticipated departures of players such as Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelöf, Jonny Evans, and Tom Heaton could help create some room on the wage bill.

One major advantage of signing Cunha is his suitability for Ruben Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 system. Wolves manager Vitor Pereira employs a similar setup, often deploying Cunha as a left-sided No. 10—a role in which the Brazilian has thrived, even amid the team’s broader challenges.

United are back in action on Sunday when they go away to St James’ Park to face Newcastle.
