Harry Amass set to make Premier League start for Manchester United against Newcastle – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly set to hand youngster Harry Amass his first Premier League start later this afternoon against Newcastle.

Amass only made his senior United debut last month when he came on as a substitute in the 3-0 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

He was introduced after 69 minutes on what was his 18th birthday, and more than held his own on the pitch as he slotted into the left-wing-back position.

In doing so, the teenager became United’s 253rd graduate to line up for the first team.

Amass joined United from Watford’s academy in June 2023 and has predominantly lined up for the U18s and U21s.

Under Erik ten Hag, Amass regularly trained with the first team and even featured prominently during he club’s pre-season tour in the United States.

However, Ten Hag bizarrely kept him waiting for first-team opportunities once the season started.

It appears Amass has impressed Amorim in training, with the Daily Mail revealing that the England youth international will make his first Premier League start for United’s trip to Newcastle today.

Amass is poised to start in defence in what will be his full top-flight debut.

Ahead of the meeting, Amorim suggested he might rotate his squad, with one eye on the upcoming Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon on Thursday.

It has already been noted that Andre Onana, who made two huge mistakes at the Groupama Stadium to cost his side a victory, will not be part of the matchday squad to face Newcastle.

There have also been rumours that skipper Bruno Fernandes could be given a rest.

Newcastle vs. United kicks off at 16:30 BST.
