Confirmed XI: Amorim picks United XI to face Brentford; Hojlund leading the line? De Ligt, Amass & Mainoo to start? Youth on the bench?

Manchester United return to Premier League action on Sunday as they travel to Gtech Community Stadium where they will face Brentford. United are unlikely to better their position in the league this season and will be banking UEFA Champions League football on winning the UEFA Europa League this season.

United beat Athletic Club 3-0 at San Memés on Thursday evening with Casemiro opening the scoring and Bruno Fernandes scoring a brace, one goal from the penalty spot. This United side started badly in Spain but soon found a way to lead the game scoring all three goals in the first half of the match.

Brentford beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Thursday evening, stopping the Midlands side from reaching third place in the Premier League with four matches still to be played. Brentford sit in 11th place the season, ten points better off than United. Ruben Amorim should prioritise the Europa League now, blooding in youth in the league.

United and Brentford have met 20 times in all competitions during the history of both clubs. United have won 11 times, drawn three times and lost six times. United are undefeated in the last four matches – winning three and drawing once. United will be eager to keep that record alive. United beat Brentford 2-1 earlier this season.

Amorim’s side will need to keep their heads, as they did against Athletic Club in Spain on Thursday evening. United put on a show and were 3-0 up before half time, which was also the end result of the semi final first leg clash in the UEFA Europa League. United will need to do the same as Brentford can be a tough side.

United may not finish in the top ten of the Premier League this season based on their poor form which has seen them lost 15 matches so far this season, draw nine times, winning just ten matches so far with four matches remaining- including this one. The problems in the league need to be solved in the summer.
