Manchester United legend David Beckham has hit back at Minnesota United following the Major League Soccer (MLS) game against Inter Miami – who Beckham is co-owner of.
Goals from Bongokuhle Hlongwane, Anthony Markanich, Marcelo Weigandt (OG) and Robin Lod saw Minnesota come out as 4-1 winners over Inter Miami on Saturday. Lionel Messi was on the scoresheet for the away side.
Following the match, Minnesota’s official Instagram account shared a picture of their players celebrating a goal with a screenshot showing the club above Miami. The caption on the post reads: “Pink Phony Club” in reference to the pink kits worn by Miami.
That post didn’t go down well with Beckham, who hit back in the comments section. He wrote: “Show a little respect @mnufc be elegant in triumph.”

It wasn’t the first time that Minnesota made a dig at Miami. Before the game, a banner was displayed in the stadium that read: “History over hype, culture over cash.” It was later shared by the club on social media with the caption: “49 years and counting.”
The caption is in reference to when the Minnesota Kicks were established in November 1975. In comparison, Miami were first established in January 2018, with their first MLS match coming in March 2020.
Beckham was again in the comments of the post, writing: “Respect over everything,” along with a pink heart emoji.
Minnesota are managed by former United coach Eric Ramsey, who left Old Trafford to take the role in February 2024. He has recently been linked with a return to England with Southampton said to be showing an interest.
Following the win over Inter Miami, he said: “I think for the club as a whole that was really important, but certainly for us as a team to show that we can compete with the very best was really important for us.
“We’re obviously in a good place at the moment but we’ve got to keep that going, we’ve got to keep working. We got to make sure that this feeling doesn’t dwell really and we’re straight from tomorrow onto that game on Wednesday night.”
