Graeme Souness blasts Alejandro Garnacho after Europa League final comments – Man United News And Transfer News

Former Liverpool star Graeme Souness has torn into Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.

The Argentine hit the headlines after complaining about starting the final of the Europa League on the bench, playing just the final 20 minutes of the defeat.

Fabrizio Romano has since reported that there is an “expectation” that Garnacho will leave the club in the summer.

Writing in the The Daily Mail, Souness blasted Garnacho’s reaction and believes he needs to take a long look at himself in the mirror.

He claimed, “to then have Alejandro Garnacho crying over getting 20 minutes in a final and his brother saying, ‘he’s been thrown under a bus’, before adding he will consider his future, well…”

The pundit then also stated that he would be shocked if there were a lot of clubs interested in his services and also bizarrely took aim at his hair style.

Souness stated, “secondly, I’d advise him to get rid of his daft bleached hair, his histrionics on the field, and take a good look at himself in the mirror. Think about what he really wants to become before he starts crying any more.”

He admitted that Garnacho has potential but he needs to “buckle down” as he is “a long way from being a proper player.”

The former Liverpool captain also took aim at United’s squad of players after the dismal defeat in the final. He complained, “the United players were once again very good at applauding the supporters following another defeat on Wednesday evening.”

The lack of character in the team was also singled out as he wrote, “pointing the finger at the manager and the system, these weak personalities leak stories to absolve themselves of a disastrous season and that’s exactly why Manchester United are where they are: in the mire.”

Souness did throw his backing behind Ruben Amorim as manager and stated that even though his record is “indefensible”, he does deserve more time to turn it around.

He praised the Portuguese’s openness and honesty about the situation and commented, “I like him, he talks with a lot of common sense. He comes across as an honourable guy, honest and I believe he knows what he’s doing.”

Nonetheless, he did state that the head coach has a lot of work to do over the summer and will also need a lot of help in the transfer market.

He wrote, “for Amorim, the summer offers a time for reflection. I like the fact he admits he is as responsible as anyone in this; he doesn’t point the finger at anyone else and has been honest in his assessments.”
