Fabrizio Romano confirms Erik ten Hag will be the new Bayer Leverkusen manager – Man United News And Transfer News

Erik ten Hag will become the new Bayer Leverkusen manager according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The confirmation was widely expected after yesterday’s news from David Ornstein that an agreement in principle had been struck.

The former United boss will replace former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso, who in turn replaces Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid manager.

Romano posted this morning:

“Erik ten Hag will become new Bayer Leverkusen head coach, story confirmed.

“Agreement done on two year deal until June 2027 to be signed on Monday.

“Ten Hag gave priority to Bayer Leverkusen despite Ajax approach and will be the replacement for Xabi Alonso.”

It seems an ironic twist of fate that the discarded United boss will be managing in the Champions League next season while United endure a campaign with no European football at all.

It remains to be seen whether the Dutchman will once again team up with his countryman Mitchell van der Gaag, who was his assistant at Ajax and then United.

Van der Gaag was replaced by Ruud van Nistelrooy as Ten Hag’s assistant at United last summer but this was generally believed to be a decision made by Ineos rather than Ten Hag himself.

He was believed to be looking for a managerial appointment himself but still remains unemployed so it will be interesting to see if the pair reunite.
