Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Andre has wished attacker Matheus Cunha the best ‘wherever you go’, amid the intensification of talk over a £62.5m transfer to Manchester United

Cunha appears destined to be the first signing of a summer in which Ruben Amorim begins to make his imprint on the United squad, aiming to build on their disappointing 15th-placed Premier League finish and Europa League final defeat.

The Manchester Evening News has previously reported that attacking signings will be prioritised and the Brazilian is on the club’s shortlist alongside Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap. In the former’s case, a £62.5m release clause would expedite the process.

Now Cunha’s teammate, fellow Brazilian Andre, has fanned the fire further by publicly sharing a heartfelt goodbye message to his compatriot.

Reposted on the forward’s Instagram story, Andre’s message read: “I’m sure you’ll shine wherever you go, my friend. May God bless you and your family wherever you go. @‌cunha.”

In a follow-up story with third Brazilian teammate Joao Gomes tagged, Andre added: “My brothers! Sharing my first season in Europe with you was inexplicable.

“I have no words to thank you for the love and care you’ve shown me and my family since day one. I love you.”

The transfer window officially opens this coming Sunday, June 1, but it would appear United are moving quickly to ensure they land their preferred targets.

The BBC are reporting that Cunha’s move to Old Trafford is at an advanced stage – with United paying the attacker’s release clause over three instalments. Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Cunha to Old Trafford is an all-but confirmed deal, with a five-year contract agreed.

After the final game of the season against Brentford, the United target posted his own statement on social media.

It read: “Wolves, what can I say to you? What an incredible season. We didn’t get to where you deserve to be, but we did everything we could to make you proud. I love these guys.

Individually, it was the best season of my life. All of this was only possible because of all the dedication and love I have for this club. I became the Brazilian with the most goals in a Premier League season, along with @roberto_firmino and @gabriel.martinelli. I made mistakes and got things right, but always because I lived this club so much.

“All I ever wanted was to do the impossible for Wolves. Another one is over. And thank you all for all the affection. Looks good, looks fine…”
