3 shots, 2 tackles, 3 turnovers: this dynamic star was an asset across the field as United defeated West Ham 2-1

Manchester United cruised to a 2-1 win over West Ham United to get their Premier League Summer Series campaign off to a winning start.

Despite conceding a soft goal, Man United were firmly in the driver’s seat throughout the match, dictating the flow of play throughout.

Unlike in their goalless draw against Leeds United, Ruben Amorim’s men came out swinging, pushing the West Ham defence to the limit from the first whistle.

Perhaps one of the most intense attackers on the day was new signing Matheus Cunha.

Playing only his second match in a United jersey, Cunha has been a clinical player in his first two appearances for the club.

Cunha showed great awareness up front, taking three shots, with two being blocked by a rigid West Ham defence.

He posted a 78% passing accuracy, which was not bad considering how high up the field he found himself as he sought to push forward as part of United’s front three.

But even while he remained threatening as both a shot taker and a passer of the ball in the midfield, Cunha did not shy away from his defensive duties.

The Brazilian made two tackles as he sought to assist his teammates in defence.

This is in addition to two interceptions and blocking two shots, proving just how willing he is to slot in wherever necessary.

Notably, he made three turnovers, showing his ability to retrieve possession for United and begin an attack from scratch.

It thus comes as little surprise that Ruben Amorim was full of praise for the Brazilian in his post-match TV interview.

Yet again, Cunha has proven himself to be an asset to his new team, giving United fans plenty to feel excited about.
