Scott McTominay reveals he has “the fire inside” to play for SSC Napoli – Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has spoken about his burning ambition to play for and be successful for SSC Napoli.

The Scot left United this summer after 22 years at the club despite having his most productive season in front of goal, scoring 10 in all competitions.

He has had a positive start to life in Italy with the local media praising his efforts against Juventus, claiming he has the potential to be a future icon with the fans.

He also grabbed his first goal for the Italians after a brief 13 minute cameo off the bench in the cup versus Palermo.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia on the move he claimed, “I dream of winning the Scudetto with the Azzurri, winning trophies and being successful. When I found out that Napoli was interested in me I felt the fire inside.”

The 27 year old also elaborated on the pride he felt at being wanted by such a successful manager like Antonio Conte.

He also heaped praise on the Napoli fans claiming, “the Azzurri fans are crazy, I would say the best I have ever seen.”

McTominay was also quick to point out that the warm welcome he has received from teammates and the coaching staff have also helped him settle rapidly at the club.

He continued to wax lyrical over the role of Conte in attracting him to the Serie A and highlighted the “very positive” conversations he has had with the former Chelsea manager and as a result, he wants to “be encouraged and give my best” for his new side.

The Scotland international was then asked to label his icons in football and he opted for Wayne Rooney and Zinedine Zidane.

“They were Rooney and Zidane, players of that kind. I have always watched them a lot and tried to emulate them on the pitch. The emotions that football has given me are so many, I love this game and I have a great desire to win.”

McTominay will likely next be in action when his side welcome Monza to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, where a win could see them go top of the table, in what would surely be the perfect start to life in Italy for the United academy graduate.
