Manchester United consider strengthening their attack in January after slow start – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are reportedly considering the possibility of making a January move for a new striker after deciding against advancing their pursuit of Bruno Petkovic in the summer.

Dan Ashworth and company splashed a fee in the region of £37 million to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna this summer. The Dutch striker has been brought to Old Trafford to challenge Rasmus Hojlund for the number nine position.

However, the presence of two young strikers has done little to improve United’s fortunes going forward this term.

The Red Devils have managed to score just one Premier League goal at home so far. Both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur boast more Old Trafford goals than Ten Hag’s men this season.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Ten Hag is now “seriously considering whether to add another striker” to his ranks when the January transfer window opens.

Despite uncertainty over Ten Hag’s long-term future at the helm, it is claimed the Dutch coach is working with the club’s sporting director to “devise plans for a recruitment drive during the early stages of 2025.”

Zirkzee has impressed with this hold-up and link-up play but the 23-year-old has so far done little to suggest he is a lethal finisher, having registered just one goal this campaign. Hojlund’s brilliant movement has earned him plenty of plaudits but he also needs to work on his finishing ability.

Accordingly, it is understood there is a “serious possibility of Manchester United going into the market for a new forward in January.”

The outlet suggests the Mancunian giants intend to “keep the age profiling down” as they aim to continue chasing up-and-coming talents in the future transfer windows. This also seems to be the reason why United did not make a serious move for Petkovic.

According to the same report, Ten Hag considered signing the Dinamo Zagreb striker this summer.

The 30-year-old enjoyed a prolific 2023/24 campaign, having been involved in 28 goals across all competitions, and was even followed by United’s scouts during the latter stages of last season.

However, it is believed the Premier League side chose not to knock on the Croatian club’s doors “due to being against the idea of bringing in an attacking threat entering the final years of his career.”
