Manchester United are looking for an elite replacement for Andre Onana and have been in touch with Atalanta over a move for goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi.
However, the Bergamo-based side are reluctant to sanction the 24-year-old’s sale on the cheap, and will demand €50 million to let him leave.
And as per Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), the Red Devils have been scared off due to the sudden rise in valuation, and have moved on to other, more cost-effective targets for now.
The Italian impressed for La Dea last season, starting 44 games in all competitions while helping keep 18 clean-sheets in total, earning praise for his no-nonsense style of goalkeeping and his impressive shot-stopping ability.
Marco Carnesecchi’s valuation scaring off United
In fact, he was called the “best-performing Italian player in Serie A“, high praise indeed, which explains United’s sudden interest.
It is well known that INEOS will need to offload players before they can think of signing more stars this window, and for now, Onana seems to be staying put in Manchester.
Monaco have been put off by the United No.1’s demands, and unless Ruben Amorim explicitly instructs him to leave, he is willing to stay and fight for his place.
Despite INEOS’ best attempts, it looks like the Cameroonian will start in between the sticks once the new campaign starts, with interest from Saudi Pro League sides yet to materialise into a concrete offer.
Onana likely to stay at this stage
As for other targets, Emiliano Martinez will also cost a bomb, even though the Aston Villa ace is desperate to seal a switch to Old Trafford.
Which has meant a move is unlikely with Atletico Madrid in the driver’s seat.
There is also interest in Lucas Chevalier, and John Victor, but whether United will actually go after a new keeper will depend on the future of both Onana and Altay Bayindir.
The Turk is also desperate for regular minutes and wants to move, but so far, a return to his homeland has not materialised.
