Former Manchester United and England footballer Paul Ince has been charged with drink driving.

The 57 year old ex-midfielder crashed his Range Rover into the central reservation near Neston, Cheshire, on a Saturday evening.

Police were called to the scene and subsequently arrested him, later charging him with drink driving. He is due to appear before Chester Magistrates next month.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At around 5pm on Saturday 28 June, police were called following reports of a collision on Chester High Road, Neston.

“The incident involved a black Range Rover which had collided with the central reservation barrier. Officers attended the scene and arrested a 57-year-old man,” reports the Mirror.

“Paul Ince, of Neston, has since been charged with drink driving. Ince has been bailed to appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court on Friday 18 July.”

The accident occurred near Heswall Golf Club, a location where Ince has previously shared photos from on Instagram.

Ince had a distinguished career playing for West Ham, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Liverpool, Middlesbrough and Wolves from 1986 to 2007.

His most successful period as a player was at United, where he won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the League Cup under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ince earned 53 caps for England, participating in Euro 1996, the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000. Following his retirement, he ventured into management, leading teams such as Macclesfield, MK Dons, Blackburn, Notts County, Blackpool and Reading.

Ince departed from his last role at Reading in 2023 and has been unattached to any club since then. He has also served as a pundit for media outlets like Sky Sports and frequently discusses Premier League football, particularly his old team United.

His son, Tom Ince, is currently a winger for Watford, having previously played under his father’s guidance at Reading.
