Matheus Cunha says the decision to join Manchester United was easy.
The new signing was speaking with Ruben Amorim (whose comments can be read here) at the pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s warm-up match against West Ham at the MetLife stadium, New Jersey.
A dream and a privilege
First, he was asked why he joined United and whether he was expecting to play as a striker.
“It’s an easy question to answer, United was always my dream club. When you can make your dreams come true it’s an easy decision,” he beamed.
“Ruben was a big part, he talked to me and showed how important I was to him so it was easy to make the choice.”
Asked who he has bonded with so far, the Brazilian replied:
“When we arrive we were very welcomed and it helps you a lot to feel part of the group already.
“It’s been two weeks already with the group, there’s a lot of physical things to do in pre-season but I feel completely fine with the tactics, everything.
“Any time he [Amorim] has time to explain a few things he does. It is important to adapt but with time everything will go off and we will show what we do.”
Handling Pressure
The conversation then turned to how the 26 year old handles pressure.
“The pressure in this club is not pressure, it’s a privilege. This is one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“When Ruben came to me and showed me the project I feel like it is a challenge I want for my career. United needs to be there and I want to be part of the process.
“I don’t think about being perfect, I just want to help the team. I am comfortable to be here and with the pressure. I hope everything can be better so I don’t think about the wrong time.”
Finally, the new signing was asked if he was confident he can bring goals to United.
“It’s the most important part of the game to score goals and help the game,” he replied.
“I will do what I need to help the team, like score goals. I come here, I understand why I am here – goals, assists and everything around it – and I hope I can do my best.”
