Exclusive: only 2% of United fans believe this first team star should keep his place next season

Manchester United fans are in no doubt what needs to happen at the goalkeeping position this summer.

Rumours of a new keeper

Onana has featured heavily since he signed two years ago, already playing 101 games for United.

Nonetheless, his time at Old Trafford has been characterised by sloppiness and a failure to show his true potential with the ball at his feet.

This was especially clear in his first season when numerous high-profile mistakes probably cost the side their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Consequently, there have been persistent rumours that United are keen to replace the keeper this summer.

There have been links to numerous options and readers of The Peoples Person are very clear on what needs to happen according to our poll.

Onana must go

When asked the question, “who should be United’s first choice goalkeeper this season?”, only a measly 2% of respondents picked Onana.

This demonstrates a damning lack of faith that fans have in the keeper and why many see the signing of a new player in this position as imperative this summer.

Clear favourite to replace him

Rumours have been heating up recently that United are intensifying their interest in Royal Antwerp FC keeper, Senne Lammens.

The exciting 23-year-old would probably be brought in as an understudy with the belief he could soon displace Onana in goal.

An impressive 51% of readers selected the Belgian as the first choice to become United’s new number one.

With an affordable price, his desire to join and likely low wages, this looks a deal United could certainly get done this summer.

Emiliano Martinez in 2nd

26% of respondents chose Martinez as the new keeper and he would certainly bring a wealth of experience.

Reports in Argentina suggest he is Ruben Amorim’s number one choice and that United have already had a loan bid rejected for the player.

Nonetheless, it has also been suggested that Onana would need to leave the club for Martinez to be signed.

Gianluigi Donnarumma dream

16% of voters chose Italian star, Donnarumma as the main man to replace Onana.

There have been some loose links to the keeper should he leave Paris Saint-Germain but there are serious doubts whether he would be interested in a move to United or even if the club could afford his high wages and transfer fee.

Finally 5% of voters did not fancy any of the three alternatives but were clear that they did not want Onana in nets come the 17th August when Amorim’s side welcome Arsenal to Old Trafford.
