Manchester United are set to win the race to sign goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, it has been claimed. The Reds have been monitoring the Belgian shot-stopper for the past 12 months and have lined up a £16million plus add-ons deal to bring him to Old Trafford before the end of the summer.

Lammens is said to be keen on a move to United, reports the Mirror, and has made it his preferred destination, despite interest from Galatasaray, Inter Milan and Lille. Ruben Amorim’s side are now looking to seal an agreement with the player, although Galatasaray lodged an 11th-hour bid on Saturday night to try and steal the ‘keeper.

The proposed arrival of the 23-year-old is expected to cast doubt on the long-term future of Andre Onana. The Cameroon international was left out of Amorim’s squad for last Sunday’s defeat against Arsenal and remained out of the XI to face Fulham in United’s second Premier League game of the season.

Altay Bayindir started United’s top-flight curtain-raiser, and although he made a guilt-edge mistake leading to Arsenal’s winner, Amorim decided against making a change in goal for the trip to Fulham. Onana returned to the squad but had to settle for a place on the bench, with Bayindir starting once again.

Onana, a £47m signing from Inter Milan two years ago, has been inconsistent during his time at United but may now consider his future.

Lammens, meanwhile, was left out of the Royal Antwerp squad to face Mechelen in the Jupiler Pro League on Sunday. The former Belgium under-21 international had played in each of Antwerp’s first four league matches, but he didn’t feature in their fifth outing – a game in which they won 2-1 with an 80th minute winner.

Elsewhere, United are anticipated to focus on getting players out of the door before the end of the transfer window on Monday, September 1. Amorim admitted on Friday that it is not a good situation to still have four wantaway stars still at United but says “anything can happen” if they do not find a suitable solution.

Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia remain absent from United’s first-team squad after the quartet informed the club of their desire to explore different opportunities this summer.

Marcus Rashford did the same, but he managed to secure a loan move to ‘dream’ destination Barcelona last month. He made his competitive debut for Barca during last weekend’s 3-0 win at Mallorca.
