Alejandro Garnacho is set to face his former teammates when Manchester United lock horns with Chelsea after the international break. In just over two weeks, the Reds will host Enzo Maresca’s side at Old Trafford in what is expected to be an explosive encounter.

The 21-year-old winger, who joined the Blues for just £40m towards the end of the summer transfer window, will be hoping to make an impact and show Ruben Amorim what he’s missing out on. Garnacho was a regular in the United boss’ side until he was suddenly dropped to the bench for the Europa League final.

The Argentina international had started in each of the previous knockout ties, so the decision raised eyebrows. Then, a few days later, Amorim omitted him from the matchday squad on the final day of the Premier League season.

Garnacho was later informed that he could leave Old Trafford. He was left at home for the Reds’ pre-season tour of the United States and trained separately from the first team, which piqued the interest of Chelsea.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.

The west Londoners managed to whittle down the Argentine’s price tag, securing his signature for just £40m. Garnacho, who signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, will be keen to leave his mark upon his return to Old Trafford in a couple of weeks.

While the new Chelsea winger is likely to receive a hostile reception, he’s got the experience and mentality to perform under pressure. Speaking to club media following his move to the Blues, Garnacho said: “I have a winning mentality. I have passion and a big personality.

“It’s a natural fit with a club like Chelsea, which have just won the Club World Cup. Chelsea are at the top now, and it’s important to fight for the club like the fans deserve. I watched the Club World Cup, and to join the world champions is special – it means we’re the best team in the world!

“It’s not common to have played a lot of games at this age, but it has helped me a lot. I’m only 21 and I have a lot of experience from these different types of games, stadiums and moments.”

On playing with Enzo Fernandez, Garnacho smiled and said: “I spoke to Enzo during the summer because he had been asking a lot of times, ‘When are you coming, when are you coming?’

“I kept saying that he had to be patient, and we would play together. He texted me when I joined to say congratulations, and I can’t wait to see him and play together. I had to be patient too, but now I can’t wait to get started.”

Enzo Maresca has explained what he expects Garnacho to bring to Chelsea. The Blues boss said: “When we are looking for a winger, we are looking for someone who is good one-v-one and who can attack and create something.

“Jamie Gittens is that profile, and we will see with Garnacho. He is a good winger in one-versus-one and he can create things. This is the way I see things.”

Chelsea are unbeaten in each of their last three meetings with United, winning two and drawing the other. Maresca’s side will have just two days rest before they face the Reds on September 20.
