Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is closing in on a move to Turkish side Trabzonspor, but he did have the chance to move to another Premier League side in the final days of the window, according to latest reports.
The arrival of deadline day signing Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp has seen Onana fall down the pecking order at Old Trafford this season. Altay Bayindir has been preferred to him in the Premier League so far, with his only appearance coming in the penalty shootout loss against League Two Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.
While the transfer window may now be closed in England, the window remains open in Turkey meaning that players can still complete moves to clubs in the league. A loan move to Trabzonspor now looks to be on the cards for Onana.
A fresh report from talkSPORT now claims that before the end of the summer transfer window in the UK, West Ham United were given the chance to sign Onana on a loan deal from United. It was a move that the outlet claims was ‘actively considered’ by the Hammers’ hierarchy.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.
However, Onana’s performance against Grimsby, where two of his errors in goal led to both Grimsby goals, raised concerns over a potential move. West Ham chairman David Sullivan then pulled the plug on the deal, the report adds.
West Ham are now said to be instead closing in on a move for 40-year-old free agent Lukasz Fabianski. The goalkeeper only left West Ham at the end of last season, but could be in line for a sensational return to the London Stadium as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping options.
The report suggests that United were considering Onana’s future at the club before deadline day. At that time, club sources were unable to clarify how the arrival of Lammens would impact the goalkeeping situation at Old Trafford.
It now seems, however, that the decision has been made to allow Onana to leave the club. It will therefore see Bayindir and Lammens battle it out to be first choice for Ruben Amorim with Tom Heaton playing backup to both.
