Bruno Fernandes has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo for producing ‘better levels’ than any other footballer. The Manchester United midfielder has been teammates with the Portuguese icon on both the club and international front.
During that time, he has managed to watch his talents at close quarters. With that in mind, Fernandes has suggested that he would want nobody else on the penalty spot than him.
Asked by BBC Sport which of his former teammates he would choose to take a potential Champions League-winning penalty, United captain Fernandes replied: “That’s an easy one, Cristiano.
“I think he’s probably the person that most people in the world of football would choose.
“Just because of the way he has dealt with the moments of pressure, the way he dealt with 20 years playing in the highest level and always providing year after year, the best numbers and the best levels and everything.
“I think he’s one that you know in the pressure moment, he will step up.”
Sky Sports discounted Premier League and EFL package

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.
Ironically, Fernandes could have potentially been reunited with Ronaldo this summer. The United star had serious transfer interest from Saudi Arabia.
As per talkSPORT, Al-Nassr and Ronaldo both approached Fernandes regarding a potential move to the Middle East, only for him to rebuff those efforts.
Explaining his decision to stay at Old Trafford earlier this summer, Fernandes said: ”I spoke with Ruben Amorim, who really tried to talk me out of it. I spoke to the club, who said they weren’t willing to sell me, only if I wanted to leave.
“From my side, it was a very ambitious proposal, the president was a fantastic person. I never talked about the money, it ended up coming up later, with my agent.
“I had to make the decision as a family and understand what I wanted for my future. That was the question my wife asked, what my professional goals would be.
“At no point did she say yes or no, she always supported me and put my professional side first. It was an easy move, even at a family level. I had Rúben Neves, João Cancelo. My children are used to playing with theirs.
“But I simply want to stay at the highest level, playing in the big competitions, because I still feel capable of that. I want to continue to be happy and do what I love most. I’m still very passionate about this sport. It’s my way of seeing football and I’m happy with my decision.”
