Salford City supporters have overwhelmingly voted to change their club colours back to orange from red.
They will revert to their original colours next season, 12 years after the decision to change. Salford starting to wear red coincided with a consortium consisting of former Manchester United players Gary Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Phil Neville and Ryan Giggs taking over the then non-league club alongside Singapore-based billionaire Peter Lim.
That change led to protests at the time, with fans chanting “We are Tangerine” at multiple matches in response to rumours that change was afoot. Some supporters also reportedly avoided the first match under new ownership due to that decision.
David Beckham, who became a part-owner in 2019 after obtaining 10 per cent of Lim’s stake, and Gary Neville, who had acquired the Singaporean’s stake a year earlier, bought out their former United teammates in May. The pair front a new ownership group that also includes businessman Declan Kelly and former banker Lord Mervyn Davies.
Neville is now reversing one of the first decisions taken just over a decade ago. Supporters voted 77.1% in favour of the change after a heritage consultation process.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.
The club also state that “significant work to be undertaken at the Peninsula Stadium to update cladding and seats, among other infrastructure upgrades that are already due to take place” before next season begins.
They add that “this landmark choice will evolve the Club into a bold, new era by combining our tangerine heritage with modern style to create a striking orange identity”. Salford have also said that “a further consultation with supporters will take place about the Club crest”, which changed at the same time as their colours did.
