Manchester United defender Leny Yoro is confident the Reds will continue to do well both now and heading into the future.
The French centre-back joined United in 2024 from Lille and in a transfer that was seen as a coup at the time. Yoro is highly rated in France and it is understood that Real Madrid wanted to sign him when United made their approach.
Despite the Reds being in the Europa League, Yoro chose to move to Old Trafford and reject the advancements of the Spanish giants. An injury in pre-season prevented the centre-back from making his Premier League debut until December away at Arsenal.
Since then, Yoro has become one of Ruben Amorim’s preferred centre-backs and, due to the three at the back system, is managing to gain plenty of minutes while also being on rotation with Harry Maguire. During the international break, Yoro is with France’s U21s as they prepare to take on Switzerland and the Faroe Islands in Euros qualifiers.
On Thursday, the defender left his teenage years behind as he turned 20. When asked whether he was excited by the future and what is on the horizon for him, Yoro told United’s in-house media: “Of course I’m always positive about this.
“I think the team is going to do really well in the future, even here in the present. So, first, I face every day slowly and I am not watching [out] too much for the future. I’m just ready for tomorrow and ready for today.
“I think the team is going to do better in the future, of course, and everyone needs things like this.” The short to long-term hope for United is to return to European football ahead of next season.
The Champions League is the ultimate goal considering the riches on offer for teams who qualify. So far, United are doing okay in their bid to finish in the top-four.
The Reds are just a point off fourth place as they enter the November international break and only small margins have prevented them from being a lot higher in the table. United could still qualify for the Champions League if they finish fifth but that shall depend on English clubs’ performances in Europe this season.
