Ruben Amorim drops Antoine Semenyo hint as Manchester United plan January transfer raid

Man Utd are interested in signing Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth and Ruben Amorim has confirmed they could be active next month.

Manchester United will make a move for Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo next month, with Ruben Amorim confirming the club will only consider transfers that make long-term sense. Semenyo has a £65million release clause in his Bournemouth contract, which is only active for part of January, to give the Cherries enough time to replace their main man.

In addition to United, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham are also interested in signing the 25-year-old. Amorim labelled Semenyo a “special player” before United’s 4-4 draw with Bournemouth on Monday and saw first hand how dangerous he can be, with the Ghana international netting his seventh goal of the season.

He is a versatile forward and could be used at wing-back if United land their man, although they will face fierce competition to do so next month. United have recently lost three players to the Africa Cup of Nations, but Amorim confirmed that there will be short-term moves next month and hinted that any deal could be in a position that isn’t necessarily the top priority.

While United are planning a midfield rebuild for 2026, they are bringing a move for Semenyo forward because of the expectation he will leave Bournemouth in January.

“The only thing that we know is that we only would try to bring players that we think is going to be the future,” said Amorim. “It’s not going to be to save something in this moment, to cope with the losses of three players for AFCON.

“It’s not going to be like that, even if we try to bring one player, maybe it’s not the position that we need more. We will try to bring now – and in the end of the season – players that are perfect for our future.

“So I don’t know what is going to happen, but it’s possible that we can do something.”
