Bruno Fernandes impresses in spite of Portugal’s failure to beat Scotland – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes’ fine efforts were not enough for Portugal to grab a win in Glasgow against Scotland.

Fernandes has not had the best start to the season as he has failed to score a goal for his club and received two red cards in a matter of days against Tottenham Hotspur and FC Porto, although the first one was overturned.

The 30 year old has already publicly addressed his form this season and claimed that he is working hard to do better and return to his goalscoring ways of the past.

Despite failing to win for the first time in their group, Portugal dominated proceedings last night with 70% of the ball and 14 shots to Scotland’s four.

Fernandes started on the left of a midfield three alongside Vitinha and João Palhinha.

He was given a score of 7.3 by Sofascore and was heavily involved, as one would expect.

The United captain played the full 90 minutes, having 82 touches of the ball. He also completed 56 of his 66 passes for an accuracy of 85%.

As usual, Fernandes got through his fair share of defensive work winning his four ground duels and making two tackles.

He made two key passes in the game but was also wasteful in his long passing, as he could only find the target once in seven attempts.

His crossing was also disappointing as he could only connect with one of his eight attempts to find a colleague in the penalty box.

Fernandes did almost score when he missed a big chance to give his side the lead in the 87th minute of play. The ball was squared to him in the box and his first time hit was well saved by Scotland keeper Craig Gordon. He also hit the woodwork in the second period of action.

Unfortunately for United fans, his poor streak in front of goal continues but he will be hoping to put that right when the Red Devils welcome Brentford to Old Trafford this coming Saturday.
