Man United eyeing Danish dynamo Morten Frendrup, likened to N’Golo Kante – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are monitoring Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup as they look for more depth in the middle of the park, according to reports.

The Danish midfielder has been likened to N’Golo Kante due to his pace and industry, and GIVEMESPORT report that United have scouted him “with a view towards making a prospective move for him in the summer”.

The versatile 23-year-old made 37 appearances for Genoa in Serie A last season, bagging two goals and assisting five.

He is yet to register a goal involvement so far this term, but his deeper role is more about breaking up play and he has been performing these duties quite well, with his ability to read the game described as “remarkable”.

As per Sofascore, he averages 1.6 interceptions and 2.9 tackles per game, meaning he could add some much-needed bite to United’s notoriously limp core.

The Reds are expected to make wholesale changes in their engine room in the coming transfer windows due to the waning powers and advancing years of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, who are both 32.

Manuel Ugarte was brought in this summer to replace Casemiro as the team’s ballwinner-in-chief, but the combative Uruguayan has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League so far.

So with vacancies expected to open up alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Ugarte yet to lock down his place, Frendrup “could represent the perfect piece to slot in to this department”.

There promises to be stiff competition for the versatile 23-year-old, with “as many as ten top flight clubs” sending scouts to see him play over the past year. Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Crystal Palace are named as particularly interested parties.

Frendrup received his first call-up to the Danish national team last month where he joined up with Eriksen and United’s No 9 Rasmus Hojlund.

He joined Genoa from Danish side Brondby in 2022 in a deal worth €3.5 million, but would command a much higher fee to depart Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

But it seems that a departure is certainly on the cards, and while the report gives no indication of how much the player might cost, it leaves little doubt that he is hot property.
