New Marcus Rashford transfer twist as Man United conditions emerge with ‘talks ongoing’

Marcus Rashford has been in fine form for Barcelona but his Manchester United exit has seemingly hit road block

Barcelona reportedly want to sign Marcus Rashford on a second loan amid speculation that his Manchester United exit is stalling.

It has been said that the La Liga leaders are currently not willing to trigger his €30million (£26m) option and another temporary move is an option if they fail to lower United’s asking price. Rashford has been playing his football away from Old Trafford since January 2025, having initially signed for Aston Villa on loan. The Premier League outfit didn’t exercise its option to make a move permanent, paving the way for him to join the Spanish giants.

The 28-year-old has been in fine form for the Catalan side as they sit top of the league, while he contributed to their ill-fated Champions League run before they exited to rivals Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals.

There have been conflicting reports surrounding Rashford and a permanent move to Catalonia. Initially, it was said that Barcelona were open and keen to completing a transfer for the Englishman.

But in recent weeks, it has been suggested that Hansi Flick’s side have baulked on the £26million buyout option and are pushing to lower the fee, something that United are unwilling to do.

Now, it has been reported that Barcelona are willing to take Rashford on loan again next season as they do not wish to meet the Premier League club’s demands.

Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg wrote: “Understand Barcelona are pushing for a second loan for Marcus #Rashford. Talks with Manchester United are ongoing.

“Barcelona currently do not want to trigger the €30m option to buy – ideally a second loan, otherwise they want to negotiate the fee down. #MUFC In any case, Rashford should stay. Approved by Hansi Flick.”

Rashford is currently into the final 18 months of his contract at Old Trafford and this summer poses as the final opportunity for United to bank profit on the forward.

With 297 Premier League appearances under his belt, Rashford has been an asset to United having progressed and graduated out of their academy.

However, after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim, he has spent time away from the pressure of his boyhood club.

In completing a second loan spell with Barcelona, it would take him beyond his deal with United and at the end of next season, he will be a free agent.

The German head coach at the Camp Nou is said to be keen to continue working with Rashford as the two close in on winning major silverware together.

Rashford’s 13th goal of the season helped Barcelona to a 2-0 win away at Getafe and move 11 points clear of nearest challengers Real Madrid.
