Man United may already have answer to Andre Onana transfer dilemma

Andre Onana endured a torrid time at Manchester United and has spent the season on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor

Manchester United may have a ready-made backup option to goalkeeper Senne Lammens next season amid reports that Andre Onana is keen to return. The summer signing of Lammens from Royal Antwerp for £18.2million (plus add-ons) has proven to be an excellent piece of business.

The 23-year-old has been a reliable presence at M16 this season, with the Belgian praised for his assured performances between the sticks. The Reds have conceded 35 goals since Lammens’ debut against Sunderland in October – the fourth best in the Premier League behind only Arsenal, Manchester City, and Brighton.

But United will need to consider who becomes their No.2 keeper next season, with Altay Bayındir facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford. And a possible option could be Reds loanee Radek Vitek, who has enjoyed a solid season at Championship side Bristol City.

The shot-stopper kept a clean sheet in what could turn out to be his final appearances for the Robins in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Stoke. The Czech spoke on Friday afternoon via BristolLive on what the future may hold for him.

He said: “Look, now at the moment it’s really hard to tell for me. I’m focusing on the next game because, like I say, I want to have a proper game tomorrow, win, and [then] we will see what the future holds.

“I think at the moment, basically, it’s go to Manchester United, and we will see what the solution will be there. What does the future hold for me?

“We will see what the options will be and what Manchester United will want to do with me: if they want to keep me there, sell me, loan me. At the moment, I can’t really speak much about the future because I don’t even know.

“It’s really hard, but I’ve enjoyed every moment here. I really like the club. We will see. The fans have been absolutely fantastic with me for the whole season,” he continued. “It’s special to play in front of fans, that’s why I’m looking forward to tomorrow so much.

“You never know what the future holds, but it might be the last time where I walk out in Ashton Gate in a Bristol City shirt.”

Recent reports from the Guardian have claimed that Onana wants to fight to re-establish himself as United’s No.1 when his loan spell at Turkish side Trabzonspor ends in May.

It is also claimed that the former Inter Milan keeper believes he will be given a chance to return and fight for his place in United’s starting line-up.
