Manchester United baulk at Alphonso Davies’ wage demands – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United target Alphonso Davies wants a mammoth £240,000-a-week for his new contract.

The Red Devils have played most of the last season and a bit without a recognised left back due to long-term injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, including in all of this campaign.

Therefore, it has been reported that the left-back position is somewhere they are looking to upgrade in, potentially even in the January transfer window.

United have been linked to Premier League duo Rayan Aït-Nouri and Antonee Robinson, as well as Girona’s marauding full back Miguel Gutierrez.

Nonetheless, another player that the Red Devils have been heavily linked to lately is Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, as his contract expires this summer and he looks no closer to agreeing a new deal with the Bavarian club.

GIVEMESPORT report that “if Davies leaves Bayern next summer, the Canadian international will demand around £240,000-a-week.”

“Alongside his salary, Davies is also looking for a signing-on fee of around £10m, and United see these figures as a sticking point in a deal.”

Due to these demands, “as it stands, Real Madrid are still considered frontrunners to sign Davies in 2025. United aren’t 100% ruled out of the race, but a move for Davies isn’t looking likely at the moment.”

Things could change however if incoming coach Ruben Amorim makes a “big push” for the player and decides he is the man to play as the left wing back in his 3-4-3 formation.

United have been more cautious with wages since the arrival of Ineos and Davies’ contract demands would put him as the fifth biggest earner at the club, just after Mason Mount who is on £250,000 a week.

Davies’ demands are also substantially more than the £150,000 a week they are currently paying the club’s most experienced left back option, Luke Shaw.

There have been other reports that corroborate the story that United would struggle to play Davies’ wage demands as they are supposedly looking at Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell as a cheaper alternative to the 24 year old.
