Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United plotting to swap Joshua Zirkzee for Viktor Gyokeres – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are reportedly ramping up efforts to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Last month, The Peoples Person discussed the claim that Gyokeres could become Ruben Amorim’s first signing at Man United, especially given that the striker worked under the Portuguese managed up until his move to Old Trafford on Monday.

Still, convincing the Swede to leave Sporting may prove challenging for United. “I’m here, and I really like being here. It’s not something I think about. I’m enjoying it here,” Gyokeres responded when asked about his United links.

What’s more, Paris Saint-Germain is believed to be interested in Gyokeres, further complicating United’s approach.

Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing revealed this morning, however, that United may have an alternative approach to convincing Sporting to send Gyokeres in their direction as opposed to other transfer rivals.

“Manchester United are ready to make their move for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres by offering cash plus a player in return, the Daily Briefing understands,” the report read.

Additionally, Romano’s outlet acknowledged that Joshua Zirkzee’s future at United appears to be in doubt.

Caughtoffside acknowledged these findings, claiming that Zirkzee could be the player who United sends in Sporting’s direction to convince the Portuguese club to part ways with Gyokeres.

While exchanging the struggling Zirkzee for Gyokeres may seem like an obvious choice, United will want to consider all their options before parting ways with the former Bologna star.

Reports have indicated that Gyokeres may be available next summer for a price of £63 million, a potentially affordable price for United that would enable them to retain Zirkzee and give him an opportunity to adjust and perhaps unlock his potential.

What’s more, Sporting President Frederico Varandas exhibited a willingness to allow Gyokeres to depart the club should he desire, which could mean that the club won’t put up a fight should United prepare an approach.

Still, any future transfer decisions may need to be put on hold until Amorim begins his tenure as United manager. After all, it will only be once the team adjusts to life under Amorim that we will be able to see where their problem areas lie.
