Man United boss Ruben Amorim “threatening to raid” PSV Eindhoven for left-back Matteo Dams – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is reportedly eyeing a January purchase of PSV defender Matteo Dams.

The left-back position has been a big problem for United all season. Throughout the campaign, the Red Devils have been unable to field a natural left-back, amidst long-term injuries suffered by Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

In their respective absences, the likes of Noussair Mazraoui, Diogo Dalot and Lisandro Martinez were all deployed on that part of the pitch.

Both Shaw and Malacia were part of the matchday squad for last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

The pair started on the bench, but Shaw managed to get some playing time. Upon his substitution, the England international took up a centre-back role, replacing Jonny Evans. Former United chief scout Mick Brown recently disclosed that he has heard Amorim intends to deploy Shaw primarily at the heart of his defence in a preferred 3-4-3 formation.

United are expected to secure the services of a left-back, either in January or the summer transfer window.

Some of the players the 20-time English champions continue to be linked with include Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich), Theo Hernandez (AC Milan), Antonee Robinson (Fulham) and Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth).

GIVEMESPORT now reveal that PSV Eindhoven’s Matteo Dams is also firmly on United’s radar, with Amorim a fan of the player.

According to the news outlet, Amorim is contemplating a January move for Dams and his teammate, Malik Tillman.

“GMS sources have been told that Manchester United’s scouting missions involving Tillman have also resulted in teammate Matteo Dams catching the eye, leading to Amorim threatening to raid PSV and attempting to strike a double deal when the opportunity comes to open negotiations in the coming weeks.”

“Having seen Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia deal with long-term injuries, the Belgian has been earmarked as a potential recruit who could help strengthen what has become a problem position at Old Trafford.”

“But Tottenham and Liverpool have also been keeping tabs on Dams, GMS sources understand, while Newcastle United’s serious interest in Johan Bakayoko could make it difficult for Manchester United to negotiate a double deal as PSV do not want to lose three of their biggest assets midway through the campaign.”

So far this season, Adams has made 16 appearances across the Eredivisie and the Champions League.

The 20-year-old only made his starting debut for PSV in September, during a 3-0 victory over Go Ahead Eagles.
