Ruben Amorim wants Man United to try and sign Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku in January – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United have scored 13 times in 12 Premier League games thus far and that is new head coach Ruben Amorim’s biggest challenge at the moment.

They are the joint third-lowest scorers in the division and the Portuguese was posed this question during the pre-match press conference ahead of the Europa League tie against Bodo/Glimt.

“I think there is a concern (goalscoring) in that, but we have to improve as a team. We controlled the ball in the second half but we were not dangerous,” Amorim was quoted as saying.

Summer signing Joshua Zirkzee has netted once while Rasmus Hojlund has only two strikes to his name. In the previous league game against Ipswich Town, it was Marcus Rashford who started up top and managed to score.

Goalscorer needed at United

But the Portuguese has already made clear that the No 9 spot is not the Mancunian’s forte. So either the Dane and the Dutchman have to step up or INEOS will need to back the manager.

Zirkzee and Rashford have been linked with January exits and if the former Bologna ace actually leaves to join Juventus, United could be forced to bring in someone on loan during the winter window.

As per journalist Simon Phillips via his Substack, Amorim has his eyes on Chelsea’s top scorer this season — Christopher Nkunku.

The 39-year-old head coach has “personally mentioned Nkunku as someone he’d love to bring to Old Trafford and think he’s attainable”.

The Peoples Person has already relayed the 20-time English league champions’ interest in the Frenchman who has scored 10 times for the Blues in all competitions.

Amorim wants Nkunku

However, despite his prolific scoring record, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has preferred Nicolas Jackson upfront in the Premier League with Nkunku starting only once in the English top-flight.

Naturally, the 27-year-old is not too pleased with his situation and is open to an exit in January with plenty of interest from clubs all across Europe.

Apart from the Old Trafford side, his former club Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund are also interested in the ex-RB Leipzig star.

But Chelsea might not agree to a permanent exit mid-season and in case of a loan agreement, they would prefer Nkunku to join a foreign club instead of strengthening their direct rivals.
