Manchester United favourites to sign incredibly talented Ipswich Town star Liam Delap – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are reportedly in pole position to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.

United’s forwards delivered yet another drab performance in their side’s 4-1 defeat at Newcastle United. The visitors dominated the possession and yet the Geordies seldom looked uncomfortable, conceding just once.

The Red Devils’ lack of creativity and decisiveness in the final third has received plenty of criticism, and it seems plans are already underway to hand Ruben Amorim a new man to spearhead his attack.

In recent days, Delap has emerged as United’s preferred striker target, and now it is being suggested the club have made some headway in the race for the much sought-after talent.

According to the Daily Mail, the Englishman is being chased by nearly every Premier League club, but it is United who are considered favourites to land the 22-year-old.

The Ipswich talisman is an old-school number nine, who brilliantly uses his 6ft 1in frame and movement to outplay defenders. In his maiden Premier League campaign, the ex-Manchester City man boasts an impressive 12 goals in 31 appearances.

Delap has all the tools required to lead United’s frontline and he also makes plenty of sense financially, as he will cost only £30m if his club Ipswich are relegated to the Championship. The Tractor Boys trail 17th-placed West Ham United by 14 points.

This is certainly an interesting development, as recently The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Delap prefers to move to one of the London clubs, Chelsea or Arsenal.

United also have a list of alternative targets, including Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha, RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko, and Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo.

It is claimed that they would all cost in excess of £60m. In order to afford those prices, the Mancunians will have to win the Europa League and qualify for next season’s Champions League which “would generate up to £100m in extra income.”

However, Amorim faces an uphill task, as his attack has been further weakened heading into the second leg clash against Olympique Lyonnais.

On Sunday, Joshua Zirkzee suffered a hamstring injury that could rule him out for the rest of the season.
