Chelsea enter the race for Man United’s long-term target Diogo Costa – Man United News And Transfer News

Chelsea have entered the race for Manchester United target Diogo Costa.

United’s first-choice goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has endured a difficult season to date and numerous fans feel he should no longer be the club’s number one.

There have been reports stating that he is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia and that United are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer.

United’s back-up keeper, Altay Bayindir, is also said to be keen on a move away from Old Trafford to try and secure more first team minutes elsewhere.

As a result, United have been linked to numerous young keepers such as Zion Suzuki, Senne Lammens and Lucas Chevalier.

One player United have had a long-standing interest in however, is FC Porto’s Diogo Costa. They were heavily linked to making a move for the keeper two summers ago after David de Gea’s departure but they ultimately opted to sign Andre Onana instead.

It has been relayed here that the keeper has already agreed to join local rivals Manchester City in the summer but, according to TEAMtalk, Chelsea have also now entered the fray.

The website reports that “Chelsea have joined Manchester United and Manchester City in the race for FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, while Bayern Munich’s stance on the Portugal international comes to light.”

It is mentioned that despite Chelsea being on the cusp of a successful season, the goalkeeping department is one place they would like to strengthen this summer.

In spite of Robert Sanchez being the number one keeper this year, his high-profile errors have resulted in Enzo Maresca’s side looking elsewhere.

“Sources have told TEAMtalk that Chelsea are now watching the 25-year-old Portugal international goalkeeper carefully” as they weigh up whether to make a move or not.

Costa has a release clause of €75 million but Porto may not insist on the fee being paid in full. Nonetheless, according to the site, Premier League clubs will not get too excited as they may only offer a minimal discount of €5-10 million.
